I have been asked this question a lot and here is an answer for you all. I to have to keep in mind that I need to rotate my oils as I have some favs out there. Sometimes it can be hard as you just love your oils but keep in mind safety is always better and there are a lot of oils out there that you can use and enjoy!!
Do you have favorite go-to essential oil? Most everyone does that use them but using the same oil over a long time you may gradually cause your body to develop a sensitivity to it and also with any other oils with similar compounds. This reaction is called “sensitization”. Sensitization doesn’t happen to everyone, but it can be much more likely in people who use essential oils undiluted or internally(for internal use make sure you are working with a certified aromatherapist). With that being said sensitivities rarely disappear with time.
Most of us have our favorite oils (mine is patchouli and lemongrass). Using essential oils on a daily basis usually is not the problem. The problem lies in when you do not use them properly and in the right proportions of dilution. The other issue maybe you are not rotating them in and out and are only using one or 2 every day. (too much of a good thing can always cause issues).
Let’s be really clear here, sensitization typically only happens with oils that are used consistently, with very little to no breaks. One thing to remember if nothing else! By using essential oils internally and not diluting when using them, this will likely increase the likelihood of a reaction and you becoming sensitized to the oils you love.
So when using essential oils always rotate them or if you are unsure of dilution rates or how to use them properly please ask a trained certified aromatherapist.
